We’re here for your journey
We all have dreams and aspirations for the future, but do you have everything in place to make them more than just dreams? We believe it is our duty as financial planners to help you discover and define your goals, then put into action a practical plan to make them a reality.
Our approach to financial planning is much like going on any other journey. There are many ways you can get to where you would like to be, but how do you know which route is the best for you? Would you like to choose the most direct route, or perhaps you’d prefer to stop off along the way? We’ll work together to create a financial plan that will act as your road map, showing the way for you to achieve your aspirations in the way that suits you best.
It’s what we do…
Financial planning is all about looking at the whole journey. It’s about navigating some of life’s challenges, anticipating the dangers and enjoying the successes. We believe things go better with effective planning, and your financial plan is no different. It will accompany you throughout your lifetime, and we would love to be alongside you to help guide you through the journey of turning your dreams into a reality.
We’re financial planners, which means we go beyond simply advising on your pensions, savings and investments. We love getting to know our clients and being able to make a real difference to their lives. By understanding what’s important to you, we can create a bespoke financial plan based around your goals and objectives for the future.
Meet the team
Managing Director & Paraplannereleanor@iankingfp.co.uk
Eleanor has worked alongside Ian as a Paraplanner since 2012 and together they set up Ian King Financial Planning in January 2015. Eleanor has a qualifying bachelor’s degree in law and was named Managing Director of the practice in 2020.
Eleanor still has a passion for the technical aspects of being a paraplanner and loves to solve the seemingly unsolvable. Eleanor is responsible for ensuring that our client’s best interests are always at the forefront of everything we do. She also helps to formulate most of our client’s investment strategies.
Eleanor holds many hats within the practice, one of those being her role as chair of our Investment Committee, where her role is to ensure the suitability of our investment process.
Much like Ian, the majority of Eleanor’s ‘free’ time is spent chasing after their young son Henry.
When she and Ian have a moment to relax, they both enjoy indulging in their common passion for fine dining and the odd glass (or bottle) of red wine.
Eleanor is also a keen mixed hockey player and often lines up alongside Tom for Coalville Rangers Mixed Hockey Team.
Ian King FPFS
Director, CFPCM Professional & Chartered Financial Plannerian@iankingfp.co.uk
Ian has been advising clients for nearly twenty years, having taken the journey from being a financial adviser focusing on investments, to becoming one of the few planners in the UK who hold both the Chartered Financial Planner and Certified Financial Planner designations, the highest possible accolade in the profession.
Ian continues to work with clients on a daily basis, helping them better understand their finances and in doing so aiding them to make better decisions about their future.
Ian also spends considerable time working with and developing the skills of the team, whilst always being on the lookout for new ways in which the experience of our clients can be improved.
Ian is married to Eleanor and their young son Henry takes up a lot of their remaining time and energy outside of work.
Family time aside, Ian loves to plan a new travel adventure, particularly one which includes a tour of a vineyard (or two). Ian is a huge cricket fan and (albeit less so since the arrival of Henry) can often be found watching his beloved Nottinghamshire CCC at Trent Bridge.
Having previously spent three years training as an accountant, Leighton moved into financial services in early 2017 and since joining our practice in October 2019 he has become an integral member of the team.
Leighton has recently begun using his array of technical knowledge to develop the skills of our newer team members and is himself currently studying towards achieving his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
Leighton’s day-to-day role includes the preparation of all cashflow analysis that forms the bedrock of our client’s financial plans.
Away from the office, Leighton’s weekends are most commonly spent playing as a Centre for Tamworth RUFC. When he is not playing rugby, he can usually be found watching it!
Outside of rugby, Leighton enjoys spending time in the gym and he can also be spotted enjoying the occasional round of golf with Joe (we’ll leave it to the two of them to decide who’s best). Away from sport, Leighton is a self-professed ‘sun worshiper’.
Assistant to Ian Kingjuliet@iankingfp.co.uk
Juliet is the newest member of the team, having joined us in June 2021. Juliet is responsible for taking care of the many administrative duties around the practice and does so with a keen eye for detail!
Before joining IKFP, Juliet previously spent six months as a Legal Secretary at a local solicitor firm and prior to that spent five years as an Accountant, completing her AAT and becoming a qualified Bookkeeper in the process.
Juliet is enthusiastic about Estate and Trust planning and will now work closely with Joe and Ian to further her knowledge in the area and develop her understanding of how these solutions help our clients.
Outside the office, Juliet loves to spend her time enjoying the warm weather, whether that be on a sun-soaked holiday abroad or simply a walk in the evening sunshine.
Juliet enjoys nothing more than the company of her friends and family, in particular her nephew, and will often host barbecues with her partner for the whole family.
When the weather is not so good, Juliet and her partner have been known to sample many of the local restaurants in the area before enjoying the latest film at the cinema.
Tom recently joined the team as an Administrator and is responsible for ensuring our client records are kept up to date, preparing reports and obtaining plan information for our client’s financial plans.
Tom is new to the profession, having previously worked for a local engineering firm and has found his first couple of months in the profession an eye-opening experience.
Tom is enjoying the many new challenges during his transition into the role, and he is keen to continue to progress within the profession over time.
Tom is himself a keen sportsman, playing and sitting on the committee at local cricket club Broomleys C.C. When Tom isn’t playing cricket, he can usually be found watching the most recent test match on television.
Tom is a qualified Sports Massage Therapist and has a book of happy clients whom he is tasked with keeping in peak physical condition, many of whom he plays sport alongside.
Tom has a young daughter and enjoys nothing more than getting out in the fresh air and spending time with her whenever he can.
“Ian and his team all offer excellent support and we have been very happy to work with them. It has made it possible for us to take early retirement and now, 2 years down the line, we still feel financially secure. It has made it possible for us to take early retirement and now, 2 years down the line, we still feel as financially secure as is possible in the current climate. We have recommended Ian’s services to a number of our friends and work colleagues and would not hesitate to recommend in the future.”
Bob and Diane
“We do not believe Ian could do his job so well and handle our queries in such a timely manner without the team, who have always responded quickly and kept us up to date”
Stuart and Yvonne
“Ian King Financial Planning’s approach was a breath of fresh air. For the first time we had a proactive adviser who was interested in the bigger picture of both our short and long term needs and aspirations.
What we have always liked is that Ian does not “sell” investment. He looks at the bigger and broader picture of our lifestyle expectations, both long and short term, and highlights the best way forward in our particular circumstances.”
Andrew and Barbara
